      1. Preface: I class myself as a front-end developer. I've been brewing a side project for a little while. The backend API came together fairly quickly using Laravel's Lumen (kicks-ass over Laravel for side projects FYI)

The thing I've been struggling with is not the building of the front-end but deciding how to build the front end. I'm not a fan of sending an empty doc and then pulling in API data on the client side, but the front-end dev in me wants to do it as I can then auto update.

The back-end dev in me just wants to render everything in Lumen and let the user press refresh to update the page. I seem to have a missing knowledge gap of this "middle-end developer" and I don't know where to start.

One thing this thread was missing was the mad respect for anyone starting web dev today. There are so many options even I get choice paralysis and don't know where or how to start.
